Almost 2 years later since we’ve moved into our Jones Co. home and our playroom is officially complete! When building our home, we didn’t want to designate an actual bedroom as a playroom. Instead, we came up with the idea to have the storage closet attached to the upstairs den finished instead of it being left unfinished for storage! We thought it would be the perfect space to make a little playroom for Joanie and future children (hello baby girl on the way!) and I love how it’s attached to our den.
It’s not a big space since it’s essentially a storage closet, but it’s just big enough for Joanie to play in there, and a friend or two! She absolutely loves this space, and especially enjoys hanging out in her teepee. I’ll sit in there with her and read books together, and I know she’ll continue to love reading in there as she grows up.
Another reason I love this space is that it’s the perfect spot to store all of the toys, so they’re not visibly scattered around the house! I picked up this shelving unit and stackable bins from Target so all of Joanie’s toys are easily accessible for her to play with, and it makes cleaning up really easy.
Joanie’s teepee is from Amazon and her floral teepee topper is from Etsy. The pillows and pink rug are all from Target. The pom pom storage basket is also from Target. Her bookshelf is from Walmart and makes it really accessible for us to pull books to read in her teepee. The “Be Kind” sign is from Opal + Olive- we love their signs!
I love this view from sitting inside the teepee and you can see how I really tried to utilize every space of this storage closet. When you first enter the room, I have a table and chairs for arts + crafts. It’s actually the Skip Hop activity center that converts to a table with chairs you can get when your baby outgrows it! Our wooden craft storage was a Facebook marketplace find that I actually used in my classroom for supplies. Joanie knows where everything is in each drawer and it makes arts + crafts time easy to do!
If you are building a Jones Co. home soon, definitely consider having a storage closet made into a finished space. The opportunities are endless for what you can turn the space into! It doesn’t have to just be for storage!
