Hi.

Sharing our 1920’s farmhouse renovations, home decor, homesteading life, and my motherhood journey as a girl mom. I’m so glad you’re here!

Joanie's 6 Month Schedule & Update

Joanie's 6 Month Schedule & Update

How is my baby girl already half a year old?! Time needs to seriously slow down, but I love watching Joanie learn and grow every day. I feel like I love her more and more each day (how is that even possible!?) and am soaking up all the baby time while I can. The last time I did an update was Joanie’s 4 month schedule, so if you haven’t seen that one, you can click to read it! Today I’m going to be sharing all of Joanie’s 6 month milestones, updates, and her schedule. Remember that each baby is so different, and what works for us, may not work for you and your baby. We are learning as we go! :)

Joanie’s outfits are from Elsewhere Shop. They literally have the cutest baby girl and boy clothing!! I love that their clothing is stylish and more trendy than the typical baby clothes you see in stores. I would seriously wear these outfits if they came in my size! The quality is also amazing, and the prices are even better! Definitely check them out if you’re looking for some new fall/winter pieces for your baby, or their outfits make the perfect baby shower gifts!

Here are links to the outfits that Joanie is wearing in these photos:

6 Month Updates and Milestones:

  • We just had her 6 month checkup and she weighs 15 pounds (26% for weight), 25 1/2” tall (37% for height), and head circumference is 21% (yay for a growing head!)

  • Still drooling! The doctor says she can feel that her bottom teeth may be coming in soon! She will literally put her mouth on anything and everything.

  • Very ticklish and will giggle if you kiss her face or tickle her feet

  • She has been very vocal! She can make “ba,” “ma,” and “ah” sounds. She’ll also make popping noises and they’re adorable.

  • She’s doing much better at tummy time now! She has even tried to put her weight on her toes and do a full pushup! She also loves to spin in a circle while on her tummy and will literally do a 360 in a few minutes.

  • She’s not a roller yet, but LOVES to sit up! She started sitting up on her own a little before 5 months and I was so surprised since it was very early! She does great sitting now and rarely falls over.

  • Still naps in her Merlin Magic Suit and she also sleeps in it at night now in her pack n play— she outgrew her swaddle and her bassinet.

  • Loves to pick up toys and put them in her mouth— her current favorite is this musical cube that she can sit up and play with.

  • We stated solids! We are using the Moms on Call baby food introduction calendar, and it has been going well. I’ve noticed that her appetite is different throughout the day, and she typically loves to eat dinner but hates breakfast time. She’s had oatmeal, pears, apples, squash, carrots, and a blueberry/avocado blend. We are doing purees to start, and chose not to do BLW.

  • Still loves SHORT car rides, her activity center, her baby carrier that faces outward, bath time (she recently learned how to splash and it’s adorable!), and walks in her stroller every night.

  • She has been able to stand while holding on to the coffee table if we let go!!! Ahh!! She’s going to be a walker!

  • Joanie started swim lessons! She started swim lessons at Goldfish Franklin at 4 months old! She loves it so much and has already learned a lot! I’ve noticed a huge difference in just 2 months, and we go every Wednesday morning. Check to see if there is a Goldfish near you!

  • She also loves her music class with Music Together in Spring Hill. We go every Tuesday morning and she will sit up and interact with the songs and instruments the entire time! She’s so alert! You can also check to see if there is a Music Together near you!

  • If you missed my breastfeeding journey post, make sure to read it to get full details, but Joanie has been breastfeeding like a champ without a nipple shield now since her mouth tie revisions. My original goal was to breastfeed for 6 months, but things are now going so well that we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. My next goal is to make it to a year!

Joanie’s Schedule

Joanie’s schedule still varies day by day, but we have tried to keep things consistent by following an eat, play, sleep routine. This definitely doesn't happen everyday now that she’s getting older, and she seems to be able to adjust based on what we’re doing each day. We now are trying to follow the Mom’s On Call 6-15 months daily schedule guide, and I have been following it very loosely. It definitely helps!

  • 7-8am: Joanie sleeps in her Merlin suit in her pack n play next to our bed, and will typically wake up sometime between 7 and 8. I’ll hear her start talking to herself and then she will nurse for 10 minutes.

  • 7:30-9:00 Play time! Joanie will play on one of her playmats with some toys and stand in her activity center after she nurses. During this time, I always pump. She also eats solids around 8:15. She’ll have some oatmeal and fruit or veggies.

  • 9:00-10/10:30 Nap time! She’ll typically name for an hour or an hour and a half. Then she gets up and plays for a few minutes.

  • 11:00: She’ll nurse for 10 minutes.

  • 11:00-12:30/1: Play time! She gets her second round of solids during this time! Oatmeal, fruits, and veggies.

  • 12:30-2:30: 1 1/2- 2 hour nap and then play a few minutes.

  • 3:00: Nurse for 10 minutes.

  • 3:00-5:00 Play time!

  • 5:00-5:45 This is always her shortest nap of the day. We’re lucky if she’ll nap until 6. I always cook dinner during this time.

  • 5:45 Nurse snack (she’ll nurse for only a few minutes to hold her off until bed time)

  • 5:45-6:30 Play time! She’ll eat dinner during this time too and normally eats better than she has all day!

  • 6:30 Walk outside

  • 7:00 Bath time and read stories.

  • 7:30-8:00 I always give her a bottle before bed. She’s learned to expect it and will drink 5-7 ounces depending on the day. She normally falls asleep after finishing her bottle in my arms and I put her down in the pack n play for the night by 8. I always pump before bed.

  • Nighttime: Joanie always wakes up at least 1-2 times during the night to nurse and then will immediately go back down to sleep for a few more hours. I think I’ve just gotten used to broken sleep!

This schedule changes every day, but overall we try to stick to something along these lines! Our nighttime routine has become clockwork and Joanie has learned what to expect and I think it helps a lot. She really never fusses at bed time or during the night. I hope that you enjoyed reading about Joanie’s 6 month schedule and updates. Stay tuned for an 8 or 9 month schedule with some more updates!
